Is it cheaper to find an old wooden row boat, or to build one yourself?
I am into some amateur filming and we are looking into some old style row boats (think old English style, or Pirates of the Caribbean lol). We know nothing about boats, so any and all information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
if you aren’t too concerned with durability and seaworthiness, you could probably knock together something pretty cheap, but if you want a real boat, it’d probably be cheaper to buy.

Here is a site with some plans: http://www.glen-l.com/ there are other sites with plans as well, some free.
as jtexas said, if your not looking for seaworthiness you could use the plans to approximate something relatively cheap, if so it would be cheaper to buy.

are you looking for a row boat so you can film on the water, or are you looking to film people in row boats in the water?
if you are just looking to film people in row boats then you may be able to find a rowing club, wooden boat association, wooden boat museum or other small boat organization that would be willing to help you stage your film.
if you are looking to get on the water to film from the water then you may find inexpensive boats on craig’s list.
if you are looking for old type rowboats try searching for "whitehall rowboats".
here is a web site for a simple cheep boat to build
